Harris County Judge Emmett and the top leadership of Harris County and the Texas Medical Center will join together this afternoon to break ground on one of the nation’s premier forensics laboratories. Harris County’s state-of-the-art Regional Forensic Genetics Laboratory is expected to move into its new home in late autumn 2012. The 16,000-square-foot space in the Texas Medical Center’s John P. McGovern Building will be converted into a top-notch forensic genetics laboratory with the most modern technology providing the laboratory staff with tools to deliver high-quality forensic testing services. DNA lab staff and analysts, crime scene team, and other DNA specialists of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will occupy the space.
County officials will be available to speak with the media at the event.
