Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Commissioner Rodney Ellis will welcome Meshal bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatarís ambassador to the United States, and state Rep. Garnet Coleman to the now-defunct Riverside General Hospital this morning to announce a major development in the revival of the historic Third Ward facility.
Harris County bought the Riverside buildings and property earlier this year, three years after the hospitalís closure, with county officials saying they hoped to restore parts of the facility and rededicate it to providing badly needed quality health care to the community.
Although the hospital address is 3204 Ennis, the ceremony will take place on the southern edge of the property, just outside the gateway to the historic nursing school building on Holman. Parts of the property are undergoing demolition, so media representatives are asked to park along Holman and enter the site through the south gate.
